BOWLING
BRITISH TEAM IN N.Z. THEIR VISIT TO WANGANUI. Arrangements for the approaching visit io Wanganui of the British bowl ers are well advanced. The tourists are I to arrive here on Tuesday, January 5, at midday, and they arc to ba accorded a public reception on the Wanganui Club’s green at 2.30 o’clock. A match is to be played on the Wednesday afternoon, but it is hoped that another match will bo arranged for the Tuesday afternoon. At a meet ing of delegates to the Wanganui Centre Tuesday evening it was mentioned that the British team were having a very strenuous time travelling and playing, and the opinion was expressed that they would prefer to play only one game here. It was pointed out that a large number of country players wore anxious to play against the Britishers, and in view of this fact it was decided that, in the event of a favourable reply being received a team representing the country clubs would meet the visitors in that, their first game here; while the Wednesday’s match would bo against the city clubs’ representatives. In the event of only one game being played, the Centre decided that the Wanganui team should bo chosen from city and country clubs on the membership basis as near as possible. It was further resolved that an entry of Mis for country and £1 for city players be charged, this to include admission to the entertainment in the evening.
Tuesday’s game —if one is played—will take‘place on the Wanganui green, hut in regard to the games on the Wednesday a committee comprising Messrs Gordon. Steel and Nixon will decide on which green it shall bo played. As soon as a reply is received from the Britishers as to whether they will play one or two matches the various clubs will be asked to call for names of those willing to play and send in their quota (on a membership basis). Messrs Benefield, Hord, and Harden wore appointed as Centre selectors. I It was decided to entertain the visi- ' tors at something in the way of a ; social evening, to be hold in the Wan ganui Club’s pavilion, on the Wednesday evening; tickets. 5s for non-play-ers, ladies free. Messrs Christie and W. Herd were appointed to arrange a programme. Wanganui Centre badges may he obtained from the Centre secretary. These badges are to be worn by officials and players during the visit of the British team, the members of which in other places have exchanged their badges with those of the players whom they have played against.
