THE TURF

NOTES AND COMMENTS !' (By * * Early Bird.’ ’) Th** following meeting* will bo in progress on Saturday (Boxing Day): Auckland. Manairatu. Taranaki. Wai-i pukurnu. Dunedin and Westland—five in all. but there will be three more than that on New Year’s Day. Tn the published list of acceptances fnr the Marton J.<\ Summer meeting. Note 7.13. in the Juvenile Handicap, and Birkie, 7.0.. in the Railway Handi-• can. were omitted. Now that the Auckland Railway Handicap is to be divided there is some discussion as to the distribution of the | stake. Mr. W. S. Spence, the secretary. has stated that the first horse in each division will receive 500 sovs., second 125 sovs.. and third 75 sovs. F. D. Jones arrived at Awapcni yesterday. with Economist. Zaragoza, and i the two-year-olds Bank Note and Limerick, who are to race during the holidays at the Manawatu and Marton meetings. During Jones’ absence AlaInga and Calcite will be spelled. It is und rstevd that Money Order ■ is a doubtful starter in the Railway , Handicap at Ellerslie on Saturday The three-year-old had a cold the other day. and this, combined with the fact that Glentruin galloped brilliantly the, other morning, may induce the stablel to rely on Glentruin. Glentruin was given a sprint over four furlongs at Ellerslie on Tuesday ninrning. She did not appear to have her full Railway weight up. but her , performance was the best of the morning over the distance. However, she went so nicely that it is only a mat ter of her keeping right to again reproduce the brilliant form she showed i n season or two ago. Mosaic has proved himself a good three-year-old in hack company this season and though he may nut be equal to winning the Great Northern Derby. ; in which his name still figures, he should make some of the races he contests in the near future interesting. This season he has contested nine races fur four wins and two seconds. By the way he* went at Ellerslie on Tuesday he is pretty well. Tanadecs and Tresham were responsible for a good gallop at Trent ham on Tuesday morning. Carrying light weights, they gut to the end of a mile on the grass in Jmin. 43sec. Tanadees appeared to be going slightly the better nt the finish. Grund Knight did not go too well over live furlongs, tak-! ing Imin. 4sec., time which Sa sham and' improve ! upon by Asec. Ilka • was sprinted down the straight, an-l ? N< te and i’pode also did a sprint from th'* three-furlong post in 37sec. Mr. Geo. Currie has received a cable

stating that the two year-old iilly Minjerookha tby Limond-Ursula ■ won the. Nursery Handicap at Randwick on Saturday (first day of the A.J.C. meeting! . in great style. The half brother of Thu Thorn, Roseneath (Absurd-Ruse Queen ) j was second. Mr. Currie has also re- ’ • eivod wont that the two brood mares • Drax and Pomyris. recently purchased 1 on his behalf were shipped on the Ruahinr which left ot the 16th iust. Drax was foaled in 1921 ami is by SpearniiiitSuncroft, by Sunstar-Miramonde, by Desmond-A imiration (dam of Pretty Polly i. She is in foal to Golden Orb iby Mareovil;. Pomyris is a bay mare funic i in 1921 by Pomiuern-Porphyris, by Sant«i-Cytherea, by Cyllene Stolen Love, by Buccaneer-'l'rue Love, by Sterling, and is in foal to Junior. I»rcat Bingen is included in the list, of acceptors for the Auckland Trotting < up. but is by no means a certain starter, and Mr. J. R. McKenzie will most likely rely upon Acron. Great Lingen will contest the Free for Al:ci the second day. and may be seen in • '-omission on the third day. This will t ;;.b:ibly conclude his racing this sea •‘.in New Zealand, as arrangements lave b “ii made for him to leave for Australia on or about January 15, eu route for Perth, where he will contest the championship of Western Australia on M-<r :! 6. 13. and 20. It will be re-nieiiibrr-d that Great Hope made the trip last season, and was successful, and as Great Bingen is much superior in both sjieed and stamina, and as he has been showing excellent form during the past month, his prospects of being successful in the West look decidedly bright. His owner is to be congratulated on his enterprise. HAWKE’S BAY ACCEPTANCES [Per Press Association.]
