UNMASKED IN COURT. [Per Press Association.! WELLINGTON, Dec. 23. Herbert William Upjohn, aged 2fy was charged at the Magistrate’s Court with obtaining goods of the value of £3B from Kirkcaldie and Stains, and attempting to obtain suits worth £47 from J. T. Lewis and J. H. Doherty by the pretence that he was a member of the Governor-General’s staff, and obtaining a typewriter, value £lB 10s, from Remington Ronco Agency by pretence that he was Captain Upjohn of the London “ Times.’ 1 * Detective Walsh said that when he arrested accused the latter said he was Captain Upjohn, of the Welsh Guards, and had recently arrived. He later confessed that he belonged to New Zealand, and was only 20 years of age. He said he had been employed with the Empire Press Union in Australia and came to New Zealand as a steward. He had since done work for New Z(’aland newspapers. Ho pleaded guilty and was committed for sentence. An additional charge of stealing a typewriter, valued at £22, the property of Holday and Co., Auckland, was adjourned till December 31.
