TURAKINA SCHOOL
SPORTS AND PRIZE-GIVING The, Turakina School held its annual picnic and prize giving on Mr J. Graut's beautiful grounds on Saturday. The weather was excellent and there was quite a. large number of parents and friends present. The children spent, a, very happy time, indulging in games and bathing. The head teacher, before calling on Mrs J. Grant to distribute the prizes, referred to the steady progress made by the children and complimented the members of the Committee for their unwearying efforts in connection with improvements to the school grounds. Cheers were then given for all those who had contributed towards the picnic. for those gentlemen who had kindly conveyed the children in cars, and to Mr Grant for the use ef his grounds. Teacher Farewelled A< the rl-.se of school on Friday afternoon o| port unity was taken to bid farewell Io Aliss E. Clemanee, who is giving up teaching io be married. The head teacher referred Io Miss Clem anee’s ability as .. teacher, staling that, she had worked hard with her classes and had taken great interest in the welfare, of her pupils. On behalf of lhe children and teachers, he, asked Miss Clemanee to accept, a beautiful crystal bowl, with the best, wishes of the pupils and teachers for her future happiness. Three hearty cheers were then given and the proceedings Hosed with the singing of “For 18bc’s n Jolly Good Fellow.” During her stay in Turakina, Miss Clemancp has acted as secretary io the X’oung Helpers’ League (Dr. .Barn ardo’s Hopes') and at the recent, box opening a sum of £4- I'Ja 2d wa: netted.
