LITHOGRAPHED SIGNATURES.
UNIQUE POSITION [Per Preus Association.T THAMES, Dec. 19. A unique position was disclosed when the Bank of New Zealand presented debentures for payment by the Borough treasurer on a loan issued twenty years ago. The latter noticed that the debentures signatures were lithographed, not written, as required by the Act. Ho refused payment, referring the matter to the Public Trustee, who had the money in the sinking fund ready to pay over. The Trustee says that he has never heard of a similar position. He referred the details to Wellington for advice. The Act provides that coupons may | bear lithographed signatures. This is I not extended to debentures, hut the ofI ficials evidently assumed that it did, | The council has asked the Attorneys j General for his opinion.
