PIGEON FLYING
WHANGAREI TO WANGANUI. On Saturday the Wanganui Pigeon Flying Club held a race from Ranganui, an air line distance of 264 miles, for a trophy presented by Airs Dwyer, Taup<) Quay. The birds were liberated by the stationmaster at 8 a.m., the winning bird, owned by Air W. Storey, doing the distance in 7hr. 2min. The following is the result:— AV. P. Storey 1, 1095.94 yards per minute. P. J. Afailman 2, 1095.48 yards per minute. C. Gainey 3, 1095.18 yards per minute. B. Kench 4, 1067.28 yards per minute. J. Reid 5, 1063.98 yards per minute. H. Heibner 6, 1060.14 yards per minute. Also competed:—Entries by Afessrs Douglas. Sundborn, Edmonds, AlcDonald. Toop, Dow, Hylton and Rosemergy. To-morrow night the birds will be hampered for Christchurch, and on Friday at 10 a.m. for Auckland, yearling championships interval races.
