MOSSTON SCHOOL
A SUCCESSFUL CONCERT. DISTRIBUTION OF PRIZES. The Mosston School was crowded on Thursday evening for the annual concert and presentation of prizes, and the function proved most enjoyable, the ■ programme, almost entirely provided ' by the pupils, being an exceptionally ‘ good one. It comprised lhe following items: —Opening song, ‘‘Brighten the; Corner Where You Are,” School; piano : duet, “The Departure,” Winnie Rooty and Edith Sears; songs (a) “Monkey Land” (b) “Cuckoo,” Standards 1. and II.; recitations, Jessie Tagg and Phyllis Pedley; solo, “Just,” Ena Simpson; solo, ‘‘Tit for Tat,” Miss Astbury; part singing, “Come, Soft an! The concert was followed by the dis- I tri button of prizes by Mr F. Laing, chairman of the School Committee, who congratulated the pupils and staff on the success of the evening’s entertainment. Supper, provided by the parents, was dispensed by the members of the ladies’ committee, while Messrs Laing, Keir, Parkes, Macneil and McDonald, members of the School Committee, gave valuable assistance.
During the evening the pupils presented “surprise packets” to their teachers Mr Astbury and Miss Inder, each of whom thanked the children. , The prize list is as follows: — Mer.lt Prizes. BREAKING-UP DAY. MEMBER DISTRIBUTES PRIZES. X’- the Doric Hill School on Friday afternoon the prizes for the year’s work w. .c presented by Mr W. S. Glenn, M.P., who spoke words of encouragement and congratulation to the children. He paid a tribute to the work of the staff, expressing appreciation of the children’s behaviour and praising all concerned for the way the school and grounds were kept. The pupils thanked the headmaster, Mr Haydon, for his care of them during the year, the girls presenting him with an eversharp pencil, while the boys gave him a fountain pen.
