NORTH OF WANGANUI

FAIR YARDINGS CLEARED The Farmers’ Co-operative Organisation Society, Hawcra, reports: Very little movement has taken place throughout the district during the past '.•.(■ek. Buyers are commencing to complain about the weather, and although v. e have just had a good shower a lot more would be very acceptable. Last week’s rain did very little good, as it was followed by a very strong and drying wind. Sheep coming off the shears are looking very well and are putting on condition fairly fast, but the same does not apply to beef cattle. A fair number of second-class cows are now available but prime run bred cattle are ' still scarce and there is a fair demand for them, particularly prime young cattle. The works have now all commenced '-.illiiig. and reports are to the effect that lambs are not killing very heavy, and at the prices offering are not working out at the prices farmers were expecting in the early spring. Yardings have been very fair, and although vendors seem to think prices realised are on the low side, they have met the market, and good clearances under the hammer have been the general rule. At Waverley on Friday, we had a good entry of pigs and a fair entry of store cattle. Bidding was inclined to be a little lax, but wo report a good clearance under the hammer at prices quite satisfactory to vendors. Small store pigs £1 6s. weaners (best) 13s to 13s 6<l, others 7s 6d to 9s, very small
