SENIOR CONCERT ENJOYABL ENTERTAINMENT A diversified and thoroughly enjoyable concert programme was submitted to a large and appreciative audience in the Girls’ College Hail last evening by the senior pupils. Tho long and varied programme provided a galaxy of brilliant talent and the excellent quality, tone and volume of the voices, sympathetic renderings and work executed at the piano and in the manipulation of the violin, were pleasing to listen to, and reflected great credit upon both the performers and their tutors. The unstinted applause that greeted every item was well merited, and although recalls were not the order of the evening, the audience could not resist clamouring for more, being reluctant to let the performers retire. Probably the most popular numbers were those presented by the choir, whose voices blended harmoniously when they sang the old English folk songs, “The Carrion Crow,” “Let Bucks a Hunting Go,” “The Frog and the Alouse,” and 4 4 Simple Simon” at the commencement of the concert, and 44 Hush Song,” 4 ‘Orpheus with His Lute,” “I Keep Six Honest Serving Alen,” and ‘The Camel’s Hump” as the grand finale. The former numbers were a fitting prelude and an indication of what was to follow, while the concluding items despatched the packed house with a feeling of satisfaction and the knowledge that they had listened to a veritable musical treat. Aliss Doris Symes, who is well known on the local concert platform, was one of the outstanding performers of the evening, and her exquisite contralto voice was heard to advantage in “Whene’er a Snowflake,” and 44 The Dawn has a Song.” AVhat left tho most lasting impression, however, was the perfect understanding and technique she displayed when she sang (by special request) with delightful tenderness 4 ’Annie Laurie.”

Roberts, B. Sloane, D. Gilmour, and D.
