LIBRARY COMMITTEE. TWO HUNDRED BOOKS THIS YEAR. (From the “Chronicle’s” Special Correspondent.) An ordinary meeting of the library committee was held on Thursday night; present —Mrs Sims, Miss Leigh, Messrs Sims, Dowling, Burgess land Gabitcs. Accounts for the installation of electric light, £B, insurance on building and contents, 9s 9d, were passed for payment. it was decided to ask the County Council to receive a deputation with reference to the library building. In order to raise funds for a further supply of books a Paddy’s market was arranged for Friday, December 4. The secretary reported that now books added during the current year totalled nearly 200. TENNIS MATCH. TUBAKINA BEAT FORDELL. The tennis match between Turakina and Fordell resulted in a win for the former. The details are as follows, Turakina pllayers being named first:— Ladies’ Doubles: —Mrs. A. Glasgow and Miss Cameron 6. Miss Dunlop and Miss Campbell 3; Mrs. C. Major and Miss Major 6, Miss Barnes and Miss Dunlop 4. Ladies’ Singles:—Mrs. C. Major 4, Miss Barnes 6; Miss ajor 3, MissDunlon 6; Miss Cameron 4, Miss Christie 6. Men’s Singles:—H. GUant 6, Symons 2; Paranihi 6, Dunlop 3. Men’s Doubles:—Fitches and KaraI tau 6, Barnes and Stewart 1; Grant and Paranihi 1, Symonds and Dunlop I Mixed Doubles:—H. Grant and Mrs. C. Major 3, Miss Barnes fend Symonds 6; Miss Major and Paranihi 6, Miss Dunlop and Dunlop 2; Miss Cameron and Fitches 6, Miss Christie and Barnes 2. Totals:—Turakina 63 games, Fordell 48 games. W.C.T.U. The (annual meeting of the local branch of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union was held on Thursday at the Manse, there being a good attendance. The president (Miss Benfell) gave an interesting address on praver and Mrs. R. Glasgow read the annual report. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows: —President, Miss Benfell; secretary and treasurer. Mrs. R. Glasgow; Cradle Roll and White Ribbon Agent, Mrs. F. Gabites. At the close of the meeting Mrs. Fletcher dispensed afternoon tea. GENERAL. The electric light was available for use in several houses last week, land the local dairy factory is using the power. ’* The net proceeds of the benefit in aid of a local resident, recently incapacitated by accident, totalled £l3. The thanks of the committee arc due to Mr H. Karatau, who kindly showed pictures during the evening.
