PROPOSED HIGH SCHOOL. (From the “Chronicle's” Special Correspondent. The Raetihi School Committe has been persistent in its agitation for the establishment of a district high school, and have been in communication with • i the Minister of Education on the sub*ct. The Minster has now intimated that he will be pleased to receive a deputation in respect to the proposal, at Ohakune Junction on a date to be fixed when the Minister is journeying southwards. CROQUET CLUB. The official opening of the Raetihi I Croquet Club’s new green took place on Thursday afternoon, in fine wea- • ther, there being a large attendance of members and visitors present. The president (Mrs Boyd) said it was a great pleasure to see so many 1 members and visitors present, and hop- , cd that the new members would become ] first-class players. She wished the : club every success and called upon the Mayor to declare the green open. The Mayor (Mr W. H. Sandford) | said he felt honoured at being asked to open officially the green. After 12 i months’ hard work the club, through the enterprise of its members, would ' be able to play «<n its own green. Ho j said it was a very creditable performance, considering the short time it had been in existence. One of the best | objects in life was being happy and 1 making others happy, and he trusted the members would meet and have every possible enjoyment on the green and that the club would prosper. He congratulated the committee on its work in establishing another form of sport in Raetihi. The thanks of the L club were due to those who had donated timber for fencing and also those who had in other ways helped the club. He then called on the president to knock up the first ball and declared the green open for play. Competitions were then commenced and some close and exciting games eventuated. The ladies provided a dainty afternoon tea. and this was thoroughly enjoyed by those present, imongst whom were members of the iaetihi Bowling Club. WEDDING. PROUDE—KIME. very pretty wedding was celebrated on Wednesday last at the Me- i thodist Church, Lower Hutt, by the : Rev. Rowe. The contracting parties ■ were Dr. Grace Helena Kime, only laughter of Mr and Mrs Kime, of i Lower Hutt, and formerly of Wanga- ] mi, and Mr J. P. Proude. of Raetihi. ! jnly son of Mr and Mrs J. J. Proude, of ; Dargaville. Dr. Kime has boon in charge of the Waimarino Public Hospi- • tai for some time past, and the bride- ' groom having lived in the district for ! a number of years, great interest was i taken in the wedding locally. The bride was given away by her’ father, and wore a frock of bine crepe- j rle-chine and georgette, and veil embroidered with silver. She carried a ■ bouquet of pale pink roses and sweet : peas. The bridesmaids, four in num- I ber, were Miss Phyllis Joll (Rangiora).i who wore a frock of blue and biege ; georgette, and carried a, bouquet of ' roses; Miss R. M. Proude (Raetihi). , 1 wore green shot silk and silver shoes ‘ and stockings and bouquet to tone with i T her frock; Miss Street (late of Rae- j \ ihi), rose pink satin frock with gobi ■ shoes and stockings and bouquet of i shaded roses; Miss M.
