SPRING SHOW

WANGANUI AGRICULTURAL ASSOCIATION’S FIXTURE.

The Wanganui Agricultural Association’s Spring Show, which is to beheld ion the Racecourse on Wednesday and |Thursday next, promises to be bigger and more attractive than ever. Unlike ‘some of the larger associations, the local association is progressing and widening its sphere of activities with each successive year, and the indications are that next week’s big event will eclipse all previous efforts. Farmers of the surrounding districts, and city dwellers, are busy directing their attention to preparing their exhibits, and it is expected that the stud stock that will be penned by breeders will compare in condition and quality with that shown to the public in the past. Generally speaking, all preparations for the sho' ■ are well in hand, and so good has the organisation of the Association been to Mate, that everything is working j smoothly and with perfect harmony, iThe energetic secretary (Mr. F. G. Sedjdon), and his capable and efficient staff, are working overtime, and are experiencing a particularly busy time in dealing with the satisfactory entries that i'arc coming to hand from all quarters. A perusal of some of the names in {the exhibitors’ list demonstrates that I the popularity of the Wanganui Show {is extending further afield. New brecd- { ers in the live stock sections are becomiing interested in the fixture, and, for {instance, some of the most prominent Jersey breeders of the Taranaki district will be represented. On People’s Day (Thursday), ore of the features will be the jumping competition and, in this connection, it might be mentioned that keen contests are anticipated, particularly in view of the fact that one of the jumpers will ibe the champion from the Hastings and Carterton Shows, and possibly the winner at the Manawatu fixture also.

The dog section will prove particularly interesting, and has attracted attention of fanciers* from all parts of the North Island. For the first time in the history of the Association imported golden retrievers and Welsh terriers will be exhibited, while the entries in all the other classes are well maintained. The Home Industries section should provide keen competition, and the ladies are promised something special in the wav of needlework.

The availab?. space for the outdoor attractions is taxed to its limit, antf, in fact, so pressing has been the demand for accommodation, that the Association has found it necessary to turn down one of the two merry-go-, ounds, which always prove the delight of the children.

Given fine weather, the fixture should prove the most successful on record. One thing is evident, and that is that it is imperative for the Association’s [new ground to be put in order as early as possible, in order to allow for the natural expansion of the fixture.
