DOUBLE MARKET AT ADDINGTON
FIRM THROUGHOUT. NORTH ISLAND FAT CATTLE AVERAGE £l9 2s. [Per Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 3. Entries were very heavy at Addington to-day on account of the market being a double one, due to the interruption caused by Carnival week. The sale did not conclude until 8 p.m. The market was firm throughout. Store Sheep.—A small entry and a fairly free sale, though prices were not so good as last week, due to inferior class of stuff forward. Ewes and lambs (all counted) made to 345. Spring Lambs.—4l9 were penned. A good sale for well-grown lambs, but a decided drop for small sorts. The bulk of the offering averaged from 30s to 40s. Fat Sheep.—A very heavy entry of fourteen races, about 75 per cent, more than usual. Good lines of shorn sheep were forward from the south. The j market was easier in the opening stages by up to 2s 6d per head, but this was fully recovered over the final stages. Extra prime. wethers, to 57s 3d; prime, 48s to 545; medium, 44s to 47s 6d; light. 38s to 435; extra prime ewes, to 44s Id; prime, 40s; prime, 40s to 435; medium, 37s to 39s 6d; light, 34s 6d to 36s 6d; prime shorn wethers, 40s to 48s 4d; medium, 35s to 395; light, 29s 7d to 345; prime shorn ewes, 35s to 40s 7d; medium, 30s to 345. Fat Cattle. —A heavy entry of 660 head, including a line of 117 from the North Island, which averaged £l9 2s, and a good draft from the West Coast. The sale opened easier than last week, but finished firmer. Best beef made to 61s per lOOlbs., prime, 55s to 58s, heavyweight, 51s to 545, medium, 1 46s 6d to 495, and light 40s to 455. Extra prime heavyweight steers made £26 to £29 12s 6d; prime heavy, £22 to £25 10s; medium weight, £lB to £2l ss; light, £l5 to £l7 15s; rough, £l2 to £l4 10s; extra prime heifers, £lB to £2O 7s 6d; prime, £l4 5s to £l7 10s; ordinary, £lO 10s to £l3 15s; light, £8 to £lO ss; extra prime cows, to £2l 2s 6d; prime. £l3 10s to £l7 ss; medium, £lO 5s to £l3; light, £6 to £9. Vealers.—A small supply and a firm sale. Runners, £8 10s to £ll 10s; good vealers, £6 5s to £7 10s; medium vealers, £4 10s to £5 15s; inferior vealers, £2 to £4 ss; calves, 20s to 50s. Store Cattle.—A mixed entry of fair sized cattle and an animated sale. Four-year-old steers, £l2; three-year-old steers, £9; two to two-and-a-half year-old heifers, to £6; good cows, to £6; medium, £3 to £4 10s; bulls, to £7. Dairy Cattle.—A very small entry, and slow sale, with frequent passings. Best second, third and fourth ealvers (springing), £8 to £l2; medium sorts, £4 10s to £7 10s; poor sorts, £2 10s to £4; springing hqjfers, £5 to £8 ss; old cows in milk, £1 7s 6d to £2 10s.
Fat Pigs.—A firm sale, with prices better than last week. Choppers, £4 to £<|lss; light baconers, £4 5s to £4 15s; heavy baconers, £5 to £6; extra heavy baconers, up to £7 (average price per lb., 8d to 9d); light porkers, 55s to 655; heavy porkers, 70s to 78s 6d (average price per ]b., 9jd to lOd). Store Pigs.—A medium sized entry and a keen sale, with a general advance. Small wcaners, 23s to 295; better sorts, 33s to 375; small stores, 37s to 465; medium stores, 48s to 525; large store, to 60s; sows in pig, to £6.
