WAVERLEY

(From the “Chronicle’s” Special Correspondent.) On Tuesday evening, the Baths Committee and Swimming Club held a combined meeting, the object being to come to some arrangement whereby the baths may be suitably controlled. The Baths Committee have wiped off the debt, with the exception of a liability of £3l. Mr Dallison, who is president of both the committees, pointed this out, and said he considered the time was now opportune for the Swimming Club to control the baths on conditions which had been drawn up by the Baths Committee. These are as follows: (1) That children have first consideration in the matter of hours. (2) That trustees be appointed to have jurisdiction over the baths, if necessary. (3) That the Swimming Club take over the present debt and take immediate steps for the liquidation thereof. After some discussion, Mr Coster moved, and Mr McGorrery seconded, a motion that the debt upon the baths be taken over by the Swimming Club. The following trustees were appointed: —Messrs F. Johnston, C. 11. Southcombe, S. Aiken and C. C. Dallison. It was also resolved to hold an opening carnival, the Wanganui Centre to be approached in regard to providing a programme for the day. The price of admission to the swimming carnival on opening day was fixed at 2s. No charge is to be made for children. After this business had been dealt with, the Swimming Club met to discuss several matters in connection with, club management. Hours for the baths were adopted. It was resolved that all club members must refrain from swimming in the open lake, and that other than club members be refused the use of bathing sheds. December 5 was fixed as the date by which all subscriptions should be paid. He further referred to the severe loss sustained by the club in the passing of two of its oldest members, the late Messrs O. Hawes and Howie Several club members of last year had left the district, thus depleting the rvnks.
