ST. JOHN AMBULANCE.

MONTHLY MEETING OF COMMITTEE At the usual monthly meeting of the committee of the sub-centre, the reports of four classes in first aid were received, showing that 89 had received instruction, 77 of whom sat for and passed the examinations conducted at the conclusion of each class. Owing to unavoidable circumstances it was found impossible to hold the usual ladies’ class in home nursing. Motor Ambulance. Tho association is shortly reliquishing the control of its motor ambulance in favour of the Wanganui Hospital Board, in whose behalf the association has been carrying on the service since April 1 last. Rest Eoom at. Show. Arrangements have been made for

public duty to be rendered by the brigade at the Agricultural Show, and it is their intention to provide a tent as a rest room for ladies and young childI ren, in addition to the usual first aid facilities. Proposed Ambulance Station Notice of motion has been given that the time has arrived for the associa- : tion to consider the possibility of es- ; tablishing an ambulance station in Wanganui. Any interested citizen who ‘ cares to prove the necessity for such ■ a building is cordially invited to at- ‘ tend the parades of the Wanganui Division on Tuesday evenings at the St. i John room. Invaluable as it has been, ; and still is, the present room is all too ’ small for the increasing membership. A brickselling scheme is already engaging the attention of a few enthusiasts. Annual Inspection The annual inspection of the Wanganui Central Nursing Division of the brigade was held by district superintendent, Mr J. Brine, under instruction from the Acting-Assistant Commissioner, Major E. Vine, of Wellington. The

■ division paraded under lady superin- ; tendant Mrs E. A. Tawse, and lady ami bulance officer (acting) Airs E. Poynter. There was a good attendance, and Mr Brine complimented the division on its smart appearance in uniform, and on the quality of its work under the various tests. The year, though not yet ended, has been a record one for the division, which has five years of existence, in that a greater number have gained efficiency, and more cases have been treated both in private and on public duty than in any previous year. The officers of the i division would be pleased to welcome I to the ranks any ladies who hold the first aid or home nursing certificate.
