WANGANUI’S REFORM CANDIDATE

(To the Editor). Sir.—l had the pleasaure of listening to Mr Coull’s opening political address last Thursday evening, and think Wanganui should be proud to bring forward at the forthcoming elections a man of his personality and political ability. I am a new-comer, having resided here a little over twelve months, so have not the pleasure of knowing Mr Coull personally, nor Mr Veitch, the sitting member. The latter’s political views are well-known to me, as T have watched his Parliamentary career. Why on earth Mr Coull was not returned for Wanganui three years ago is beyond my comprehension, as there is no comparison between the two men as regards politics. Mr Forbes, in his speech at the Opera House some little time ago, said that when Messrs Berries, Allen, Herdman, Fraser and Rhodes were in the House they were real good men. What did Mr Veitch do when a no-confidence motion was brought forward? He had already voted two Liberal Governments out and then he also voted against these good men to try and throw them ou«. Methinks Mr Veitch does not know what Government he would vote for. We want sound, solid, common sense men in our- Parliament —men who are not afraid to say “no” when the occasion demands it. This Communist element which has crept into our midst and has steadily been gaining strength must be squashed, for it is out to wreck the British Empire. Mr Coates is proving himself to be the man of the hour and it behoves us all to get to work and return him to power with a substantial working majority. To quote the slogan of Mr Dunbar Sloane at the Premier’s great meeting in Wellington last Thursday evening, “A vote for Sloane is a vote for Coates,” so a vote for Coull is also a vote for Coates. Mr Coull impresses me as being courageous, upright and straight-forward. He will be able to say “no,” boldly and fearlessly, as he did to the questioner at his meeting who asked him in the event of the Nationalists being returned to power at the coming elections would he vote with Labour on a no-confidence motion. I sincerely hope Wanganui on November 4 will do what is right, just and fair, and vote solidly for Mr Coull. —I am, etc., ELECTOR.
