LEVIN AND CO.’S REPORT. Messrs Levin and Co., Ltd., have received the following cable from their London agents, dated October 16: — Frozen meat quotations (prices on a "delivered” basis, i.e„ including storage charges, cartage, tolls, etc.): — ’Down lambs, 28/42’s, 12d per lb.; best North Island, 28/42’s, ll|d; ordinary North Island, 28/42’s, Hid; second quality lambs, 28/42’s, Hid; best North Island wether sheep, 48/64’s, B|d; best North Island wether sheep, 64/72’s, 8d; best North Island wether sheep, 48/64’s, B£d; ordinary North Island wether sheep, 48/64’s, 8 l-8d; North Island ewes, 48/64’s, 6|d; North Island ewes, 64/72’s, 6Jd; New Zealand prime ox beef, 160/220’s, 5 l-B£. There is very little demand, owing to exceptionally large Scotch supply. ARGENTINE PRICES. SPRING PROSPECTS GOOD. The New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board has received the following letter from its South American representative, dated August 17:— “There is a good demand for best chillers, which are scarce and worth 7.61 d per kilo live weight put in the works; freezers, 6.41 d; Continental, 5.61 d to 6.41 d; canner steers, 3.60 d to 4d; canner cows, 3.40 d to 3.80 d. There is a better demand for the best class of store cattle, which are considerably dearer, as also are good quality breeding cattle. Pastoral conditions have ( improved owing to the mild open weai ther experienced, and grass is already . fresh and green at this period of the i season, early spring.
"Sheep continue to meet a good trade at the following prices:—Sucking lambs (very few of which have so far entered the market), 12.42 d to 13.02 d per lb. dead weight; hoggets, 10.41 d to ll. Old; wethers, 7.81 d to 8.41 d; ewes, 6.01 d to 6.61 d. "The exchange is 11.98 dol. to the £ sterling.’ ’
