CHEESE Market steady and quiet. Stocks of New Zealand are nearly exhausted and no official quotations. Small lots have been disposed of at about 116 s per cwt. Official quotations are: — English.—Finest farmers: October 17, 140 s to 145 s per cwt (Is 3id to Is 3Jd per lb); October 10, 130 s to 140 s (is 2d to Is 3id); October 3,130 s to 140 s (Is 2d to Is 3id). Hemp.—Manila market dull during this week; closed steadier. “J” grade, October-December shipments, quoted at £4l 10s., buyers. New Zealand market quiet but firm. Highpoints, October-December shipments, sold at £39, fair £36. Stocks in Great Britain September 30, 135 tons, against 16 tons same time last year. Wool. —Bradford buyers show more confidence. Present quotations for tops are:— 64’s (merino) warp, 4s sd; 64's (average) 4s 4d; 56’s (super halfbred), 2s lOJd; 50’s (halfbred), 2s 3d; 40's (prepared), Is 9id. . Tallow. —Spot market quiet. No burnness reported for shipment. Present quotations are:—Mutton: Fine, 51s to 51s 6d per cwt; fair to good 46s to 50s per cwt; dark to dull, 42s to 43s per cwt. Beef: Sweet and/or mixed, 4/s 6d to 49s 6d per cwt; fair 43s 6d to 47s 6d per cwt; dark to dull, 41s to 4-s per cwt. Mixed: Fair to good, 43s to 46s per cwt; dark to dull, 41s to 42s per cwt; gut, etc., 38s to 42s per cwt. Apples.
