“VIVE LA PAIX”
DELEGATES IN PARIS A ROUSING WELCOME EFFUSIVE FRENCHMEN PARIS, Oct. 19. Mr Chamberlain and M. Briand were welcomed at the station by Earl Crewe, the Polish Minister and a number of members of the French Ce.binet. A huge crowd cheered continuously. Mr Chamberlain received a gracious telegram, from the King. The platform was draped with French and British flags. Similarly there was a French State function betokening the importance attached to the return. M. Briand first alighted, and hurried to assist Mrs Chamberlain from the saloon. Mr Chamberlain and M. Briand were photographed together, Mrs Chamberlain holding a bouquet of red, white, and blue orchids, the gift of M. Painleve. ’ As Mrs Chamberlain was entering a motor-car M. Briand stepped forward and kissed Mrs Chamberlain on both cheeks and embraced Mr Chamberlain. This hugely delighted the c*rowd, which shouted, "Vive la Paix.”
