CITY EXPENDITURE
RESULT OF HALF-YEAR’S WORK In making brief reference to the expenditure of the city for the sixmonthly period ended June 30, the Mayor (Mr Hope Gibbons), at last * nght’s meeting of the Wanganui City Council, said .it seemed to him that they had done well. At the same time, it was necessary for adhere to their estimates, otherwise they would not be able to finish the wo; k originally agreed upon. They hoped to do something better in the next, period. The tramways had made a loss of £lOOO, but they anticipated that this would be made up with the coming of the fine weather. Cr. C. P. Brown remarked that they had not got Mangahao power as yet. The Mayor added that although tlicy had spent a little more, they had noi been able to execute the work set out in the schedule of the loan. Ihe unfavourable season had hampered operations, and the engineer and the stall would have to use their best endeavours to make up the leeway—he had all the money required.
