MR ATMORE IS FRANK

By the way, the apologists for Nationalism are calling on everyone to witness that the. Reform Government has given the country nothing new in the way of “economic, prudent, humane, progressive legislation.” That, no doubt, is why the Nationalist candidate for Ashburton, Mr. R. Galbraith, has declared that he has “great admiration for Mr. Coates and would have pleasure in voting for him to form a stable Government.” It is for the same reason, we presume, that Mr. Horn, a member of the last Parliament and a Nationalist candidate, has expressed similar sentiments. Both these gentlemen, if they were returned to the House, would certainly have opportunities to vote for a stable Government led by Mr. Coates.

They are frank and honest Nationalists, and so is Mr. Atmore, who went through the country advocating the formation of the National Party. Mr. Atmore is reported to have said at an election meeting last week that “the Reform Party had ‘Liberalised, ’ as the Liberal Party would have done, measures to meet the changing conditions. The Reformers were administering measures they formerly opposed, and no one could point a finger against them in regard to this humanitarian legislation.” Will his fellow-Nationalists quote Mr. Atmore’s words? If they do will they cease circulating their canards against Reform?
