JOB CONTROL AGAIN
THE ULIMAROA HELD UP. BREACH OF AGREEMENT. SYDNEY, Oct. 17. An outbreak of job control was responsible for the cancellation of the Ulimaroa’s sailing. It is now understood that when sailing time arrived one fireman was missing and the other members of the crew refused to take the ship to sea. Application was then made to the Seamen’s Union for a man to fill the vacancy. This was not acceded to, and although every effort was made to adjust the matter no settlement could be reached. The question of overtime was apparently only a minor matter in the dispute, which, the management say is really the conmencement of another outbreak of job control on the part of the Australian Seamen’s Union. The firemen’s action is in direct contravention of the recently-signed agreement with the company, which regards the claim for overtime as an excuse I once more to exercise job control.
