AMERICAN FAMILY LIFE

THREATENED BY DIVORCE BREADOWN OF IRE HOME, SCATHING DENUNCIATION. Received Oct. 18, 5.5 p.m. NEW YORK, Oct 16. A message from New Orleans state® that in denunciation of birth control and the divorce evil, a committee of the Protestant Episcopal Convention declared that family life in America was threatened by divorce, which had grown 500 per cent, in the past fifty years. The report stated: "The nation iu lax. Facilities for dissolving marriage abound, inflaming every trifling dispute, inviting discord, encouraging infidelity and stimulating hasty and secret unions. Thousands of young people, knowing that the law permits consecutive polygamy, enterthe marriage state with the deliberate purpose of quitting it if the first attempt is unsatisfactory. Allowing for beautiful exceptions, tho home in | America has ceased to function. All this accounts for the increase in lawlessness, immodesty and juvenile depravity. Education and Prohibition legislation furnish no chock on the crime wtive. Our ills grow out of the breakdown of the home.”
