A ROUGH TRIP

STEAMER IN A HURRICANE [Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Oct. 17. The American cargo steamer West Calera, which arrived from Los Angeles to-day, ran into a hurricane on September 27. A number of hig seas were shipped and tho decks were continually flooded. Two boats were washed out of their chocks and part of the lumbet cargo was displaced. The cabins and galley were flooded. The ventilators were carried away, and the crew s quarters were also flooded. After the vessel had been hove to for twelve hours the gale moderated and fine weather prevailed to port.
