‘‘THE MASK OF LOPEZ.” MARTON TOWN HALL TO-NIGHT. (From the “Chronicle’s” Special Correspondent.) Fred Thomson and his almost human horse, “Silver King,” will make their appearance at the Marton Town Hall this evening in “The Allask of Lopez.” Hazel Keener is the girl for whom Fred Thomson fights and licks the villain in his latest thriller, “The -Mask of Lopez.” Hazel is a young woman of fixed beauty, and quite alluring enough to send anyone to punch Jack Dempsey on the nose. Ever trv to think what would happen to you if you tried to do some of the wild riding and thrilling rescues that you see. on [he screen? And did you ever stop to think of the experience that is necessary to accomplish these stunts that flash by you so fast on the screen? It is a fact, nevertheless, that Fred Thomson, whose latest thriller is

“The Musk of Lopez,” a Master picture, has gained his big following by continuous hard work and practice at all the difficult stunts which he (accomplishes with seemingly no difficulty at all. He spent many an hour to perfect the remarkable leap shown in “The Mask oJ‘ Lopez,” over a sevenfoot fence to the back of his famous horse Silver King, just as the horse passes a given point at the fence so that Thomson lands directly in the saddle land speeds away at a terrific pace without slowing up the horse one second. It is a hazardous feat, but done so prettily by Thomson that it appears not the least bit dangerous. Flashing her eyes and throwing hack her head without disturbing a single wisp of hair, Hazel Keener rides, walks, jumps land runs with Fred Thomson through his latest and best Master picture. An enjoyable social evening was held in St. Stephen’s Social Hall at -Marton on Thursday evening. Bible classes from St. Stephen’s and St. Andrew’s Churches wore present, hems were contributed by Misses Helen Wood, Joan Sutcliffe, Betty Sutcliffe and Messrs Swaine and Jeffries. A number of competitions were 'also held, the winners being Misses Foxley-Turnball, Miss Isobel Gray and Mr. Pal Meredith. COMBINED BALL. At a combined meeting of the Rangitikei Motor Chib and the Marton Rifle Club on Friday night it was reported that the ball showed a profit of £2l 10s. Special mention was made of the work done by the ladies’ supper committee, and it was decided to entertain them at afternoon tea in the near future. APPRECIATION. Mr. Hodge, who designed the new secondary building of Marton District High School, paid a visit to the school on Wednesday in the course of his duties, when Lilian Goodall and Geoffrey Prince, on behalf of the school, presented him with a gold Eversharp pencil in recognition of his work. Afr. T. Low, chairman, made a brief speech, and Air. Hodge suitably replied.
