CONDUCT OF GAOLS. TWO “STAR” PRISONERS. NEW YORK, Oct. 15. Peter Hoffman, Sherriff at Chicago, and a prominent political figure in Illinois, and Walter Westbrook, gaol warden, have been sent to prison following an exposure of alleged graft and corruption in allowing two wealthy youthful bootleggers to virtually use the gaol as a summer resort in consideration of a payment of £5OOO. It is stated that the youths were allowed out at nights and attended cabarets.
