COURT OF APPEAL
LAW SOCIETY MOTION DRINK BRINGS LAWYER DOWN [Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Oct. 16. The Court of Appeal was engaged this morning in hearing an application to strike off the roll of solicitors Williiam John Organ, of Wellington, barrister and solicitor. The charge is that Organ fraudulently converted certain sums of mbney to his own use. Mr Von Haast, for the Law Society, and Air Luckie for Organ, referred to his unusual career at the Bar, and his fine military service. Counsel said he was awarded a M.C. and was wounded, several times. He struck a slump year after returning, and became disheartened. He did considerable service for a Wellington borough as a councillor land mayor. He omitted to account for the moneys. Mr Justice Sim: That puts it mildly. Ho took no notice of the Court until after the rule nisi, then he “stumped up.” Afr Luckie: Something less than striking off would meet the case. Once struck off it is very difficult to get .back. Publicity will in this case be a sufficient punishment. Air Von Haast said the case was a difficult one. What counsel said was true. Drink had been the trouble. A summons was th ken out for the moneys and ho confessed judgment. Decision was reserved.
