Half of the garrison was killed or wounded before relief was effected. Major Rich’ard, the commander, was shot, through both legs when the defence was repelling a night attack. He directed the final stages of the defence from a stretcher, encouraging the. men to tight to the end.
| French tanks created a panic, ’among [the Riff sharpshooters when they found I the tank armour was impervious to their bullets. Thirty other tanks have boon landed at Cashblanea.
