SECRETARY STEALS 14,000 TICKETS A SYDNEY SCANDAL SECRETARY GETS THREE MONTHS. By Telegraph—Per Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Julv 22. 10.10 p.m. SYDNEY. July 22. Georg? Wheeler, secretary of the Help for Consumptives art union, has been sentenced to three months’ imprisonment on the charge, of stealing 14.000 tickets, the property of the committee. The police gave evidence that the accused admitted he put the butts of these tickets in th? barrel, and they were drawn, securing prizes to the value of several hundred pounds. The police found 21,000 tickets which had been sold to the public large numbers of the butts of which had been burned. These therefore had not. a chance in the draw. The Attorney-General is considering the question of redrawing the art union. (A Canterbury resident won first prize in this art union).
