WELLINGTON CITY ESTIMATES
(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, July 22. The City Council adopted the estimates for the current year providing for the expenditure of £248,217 plus a special contingency fund of £20,620 which will be available for use on any unexpected works. There is no increase in the rates, except in the case of that for hospital and charitable aid purposes, over which the council has no control.
Labour members protested that the outlying districts have not received the attention deserved and that the public is being misled through works being scheduled and then dropped on the ground that there is no money for them. Miramar was growing most rapidly of any urban area in the Dominion, and the provision of drainage there was a most urgent necessity. The estimated receipts are £268,837.
