MYSTERIOUS FIRE

SUDDEN OUTBREAK AND RAPID SPREAD COBURN MILLS DESTROYED DAMAGE UP TO £500,000 MELBOURNE, July 21. More than half thc premises of the Lincoln Knitting and Spinning Mills at Coburn, which cover three and la-half acres, were completely destroyed by the fire. Tho cause of the outbreak is a mystery. The foreman had just completed his final rounds shortly before eight o’clock, and had locked up, when flames leapt from the far corner of thc building. Thc foreman declares thAt everything there was in order when he passed a few minutes earlier. Thc fire advanced so rapidly that the firemen who were summoned from all the metropolitan stations were practically powerless and combined their efforts to stopping the flames from spreading to the block. Estimates of the damage range from £lOO,OOO to £500,000.
