DISPOSAL OF TWO VERY GOOD J HERDS Two very well-known herds were dispersed during last week, and record prices have been obtained, which goes to show that a large number of dairymen appreciate a good cow and realise that the high producing animal is the best proposition. At Mr Albert Ward’s sale on Wednesday the average all over was £l6 2s, and with one late calver and two very old cows out tlie balance (averaged £l7. It is worthy of note that half the herd was purchased by outside buyers. At Air Owen Parry's sale, ut Kaupokonui on Friday, competition was particularly keen and most satisfactory prices were obtained. The herd contained eight cows which do not calve until November and two cows which had calved prematurely, and with these included the avehige was £l4 10s 9d. The top price was £25 10s, and 18 of the herd averaged £2l. Buyers were present from Waverley, Alanutahi, Hawera and the ’district surrounding Alanaia, and right throughout the sale bidding was very animated. Air Parry had the appointments particularly well arranged for the sale, and everything went with (a good swing. Both Messrs Parry’s and "Ward’s herds contained a fair number of mature cows, all great types, and it should be remembered that in establishing the records both vendors had seen to it ■that their herds had had proper care jand attention. This is a big factor as without it the best results, are not obtained. I The sales were conducted by the Farimers’ Co-op. Organisation Socictv of IN.Z., Ltd.
