The draw for the Davis Cup tie tl be played at Eastbourne between England and France resulted in the first match as follows: —Turnbull against Lacoste; second: ('role Rees agairst Borotra. The latter has not yet reached England and will possibly be replaced by Cochet. The English team has been practising since Wednesday and arc reported in good fettle. Quite a number of silver buttons matches were played over the weekend. Following are some of the results: —« Combined Doubles.—Miss Cox and Ixunpe beat Mr and Mrs Marshall; Miss Hunt and Boddy beat M_iss Cox and Lampe, 9—4; Miss Hunt and Boddy beat Miss Purcell and Marshall. Men’s Doubles.— Lampe and Tukere beat Jones and Billows, 9—4; Lampe and Tukere beat Marshall and Jones, 9—B; Tukere and Lampe beat Billows and Jones, 9—B. Ladies’ Doubles (junior).— Misses Harvey and O’Brien beat Misses Hjood and Englebretson, 9 —B. Ladies’ Doubles (senior). — Mra Marshall and Mrs Jones beat the Misses Purcell, 9—B. Men’s Champion Singles.— The final for the club championship singles w also played, and resulted in a win by Lampe over Marshall, 6—3, 6—3. ner. Marshall won the toss and service, winning the first game after 40— 30 was called. Lampe equalised with his own serve, making the score one all. Both players again won their own service, making two all, after which Lampe won Marshall’s service and then his own, and had a nice lead of 4 —2. Marshall then won his service, making it 3—4. Lampe won his ewn and also the next, which gave him the first set, 6—3. The second set opened rather well jo? Marshall, winning two out of the first three games. He also had a nice lead o f 3—2 against. Lampe, and was within a point of making it 4—2. His play in the opening stages of the second -«et was more steady, whilst some of h 1« passing side-line shots were very fine.
