BEHIND WITH MAINTENANCE
WANGANUI CASES. By Telegraph —Special to “Chronicle” CHRISTCHURCH, June 30. In the Magistrate’s Court to-day, I John Alfred Jansen, of Wanganui, was [proceeded against by the maintenance Officer, Air. P. Jones, for being £l7 in [arrears under a. maintenance order 1 made in favour of his children. The, I order was made against the defendant [a. few months ago. He owned a fish I restaurant at Wanganui, but as he did not make it pay the magistrate advised him to sell it. He was living apart from his wife, hut there was another woman connected with the. business in Wanganui, and lately the shop was sold to her. “He is not keeping her now, but she is keeping him,” said the magistrate. .Defendant was sentenced to 28 days’ imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended provided he pays 10s. a week oil the arrears as well as the current payments. Henry Bailey Wood, also of Wanganui, was sentenced, to 14 days’ imprisonment for the disobedience of a maintenance order, the warrant to be suspended provided the defendant pays 5s a week off the arrears and makes current payments under the order.
