BOWLING

ST. JOHN'S CLUB. The annual meeting of members of the above club will be held at the Central Hall, Guyton Street, to-morrow night. The annual report to be. presented is as follows: Play commenced on October 2, and continued until May 9. The season has been a favourable one for bowling, and members have made the most of it. Membership at the club is as follows: Active* 107; Honorary 5. Centre games: All the games arranged by the Centre were competed for, namely:— Junior Bannerette: The "lub is the holder of this trophy. Keesing Cup — Nixon Cup: The club tied with Wanganui in this competition. Senior Shield -- Inter club games were played with Marton and Waverley Clubs. Tournaments:—The (dub as hitherto, was well represented in the local tourneys at New Year and Easter, also nt outside tournaments. On Boxing Day special club tournaments were hold and wore highly successful. The annual Labour Day tourney was held and resulted in a win for E. L. Peed, J. H. Rowley, F. Havwood, Goo. Broadhead (skip). The Ferns have been well competed for throughout the season. The team. C. 11. E. Rhodes. E. TJoyd. F. Haywood. J. B. Jack (skip), secured most wins. A (Singles') Stars. —A. H. Benefield; B (Singles') Stars.— (Gift of Mr S. G. Hnrdley).—H. S. Harris. Club Competition.—This created groat interest. Last year’s method being followed until last two games when the leaders in various sections wore drawn into four nights. After an interesting finish, the following wore the winners: R. H. Coltman. J. H. Rowley. H. S. Harris, D. Gellatlev (skip-, and the runners tip wore A. Townsend, E. Llovd, .T. Ball. G. R. Simpson (skip). A Singles: J. F. Wight; B. Singles: J. H. Rowley: C Singles: John Kirk; A Pairs: F. B. Parkes and A. H. Bene* field (skip): B Pairs: R. Armstrong and H. S. Harris (skip); C Pairs: E. A. Gibson and AV. Bourne (skip). During March a game was arranged between past members of the club and the present members. The response made by the former members •to the invitation extended to them was most gratifying, and a most enjoyable reunion resulted. The committee expresses the hone that this game will be made hn annual event. Tn December the club’s honoured president, Mr AV. Glasgow, passed a wav. To commemorate his memory the club has procured and unveiled a very excellent, portrait of Mr Glasgow, which has been hung in the pavilion. A copy of the picture has also been presented to Mrs. Glasgow, who sends her grateful thanks to all members for their kindness. Mr J. B. Jack, vice-president, was elected president. The office of vice-president was not filled. Finance: The year's operations show an improvement of £34 on last year’s working. Your committee extends a word of thanks to the green superintendent for his attention to the green. Thanks are also duo to our caretaker. Mr F. Loveridge for his faithful work.
