GONVILLE SCHOOL
The headmaster’s report presented at the monthly meeting of the Committee showed that the present roll number was 720, with an average attendance of 650, or a percentage of 90.7. In view of the recent, inclement weather, the infant attendance has been affected, and the average in consequence reduced. From a health point of view the school is practically free from sickness. The Committee have a scheme in hand whereby the playing areas will be greatly improved, the first portion of which includes the top-dressing of the main playground and the laying down of tennis courts for the use of the school. For the purpose of raising funds for school purposes a fancy dress social ‘ dance is to be held next Saturday evening in the Gonville, Town Hall. The report also states that the boys are making a name for themselves on the football field. It is proposed to take the senior team to Waverley on 1 Saturday, July 11. Sympathisers owning cars are asked to show their interest in the school by offering the use of their cars for the above date. At a recent fire drill test the school was emptied in less than one minute. The Orchestral Society’s concert for the children is eagerly anticipated.
