AN OVERSEAS LAMB

SHORN BY TRICKSTERS THE OLD STOW’. Received June 29, 11.45 p.m. LONDON, June 29. British detecti.es are searching for four well-dressed confidence tricksters on a charge of robbing an overseas visitor of £l5OO in Bank of England notes. They met the visitor in a London hotel and casually mentioned that they had important exclusive* racing information, which the visitor could share. As no money was asked for, the visitor accepted bets made on the telephone. The visitor later was told that he had won £3OOO. He was delighted, but was asked to show that he had sufficient funds to pay the bets if he had lost, whereupon he handed over to the men £l5OO. They departed to collect the £3OOO, making an appointment to meet the overseas visitor in Paris. He went, but waited in vain. He then informed the police.
