“MOST BEAUTIFUL”
HOW THE PASSENGERS VOTED. HONOLULU, May 20. According to the daily newspaper published on board the Empress of France, round-the-world liner, which visited Hawaii recently, Honolulu was voted the “most beautiful city’’ by the Travel Club of the cruise. The island of Oahu, upon which Honolulu is located, was voted “the most beautiful island” visited by the travellers, while the Pali, a mountain vista near the city, took first honours as the “most beautiful view.” According to the newspaper, “only those sights visited by all passengers were eligible for election.” The list of “most beautiful” places on the itinerary is given as follows: Island, Oahu; city, Honolulu; country, Italy; harbour, Hong Kong; view, the Pali, near Honolulu; drive, Repulse Bay and Hong Kong Peak; street, Cryptomeria Avenue, Nikko; edifice, Taj Mahal, India; temple, leyasu, Nikko; hotel, Majestic, Shanghai; mountain, Fujiyama, Japan; stream. Nile; ladies, Singhalese, Ceylon.
