UNIVERSITY COMMISSION
(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, June 25. At the University Commission, evidence was given by Professor Brown that New Zealand degrees’ standard of pass compared favourably with that of English Universities. He pointed out that whilst present passes might be obtained on six or eight subjects, it was proposed that nine educational units must be made up, this to include a three year course counting as two units, and a two year course counting as two units. He held that there was extreme difficulty in securing really competent outside examiners. He advocated that the ideal examination would result from a combination of teacher and external examiner. Professor Tennant explained the system adopted in training teachers at Victoria College, and presented solutions of difficulties which confronted the correlation of training college and university education. He suggested that the university accept affiliation of the training college as an integral part of its faculty of education.
