ATHLETICS

HARRIERS CROSS-COUNTRY RACE. In connection with the Winter Show, there was conducted on Saturday a cross-country steeplechase, open to teams from Harrier clubs. It was an ticipatcd that several outside clues would be represented in the contest, but these hopes were doomed to disappointment. However, in view of the fact that the show is an annual one, it is expected that in future the race will develop into one of’ the biggest of its kind in the Dominion, but it is a face which requires a good deal of organising in the direction of securing entries from outside clubs. The weather conditions on Saturday were not of the best, although the race was an interesting one, and u success. The result was ns follows: Wanganui A team, 14 points .... 1 Hutt, 22 points 2 Wanganui B, 26 points 3 Of the individual runners, C. Gibbons was first home from Newton, W. Palmer third. Allowing for the conditions. these three men put up highly creditable performances.
