AMUSEMENTS, MEETINGS, ETC.

MUNICIPAL PICTURES. SPECIAL ATTRACTIONS. Gloria Swanson, in “The Wages of Virtue,” and Chuen Yuen Tai, the' Chinese master magician, were the brilliant star attractions at the Opera House on Saturday evening, and won the Approbation of a packed house. In “The Wages of Virtue” the golden Gloria plays this time in the mellow sunlight and tropical atmosphere of Algiers, whore a unit of the famous French Foreign Legion is stationed. As the beautiful canteen girl she is the darling of the regiment And the admiration of every man in the ranks. In this martial atmosphere romance is easily fostered, and the stAr’s love affair is of An entertaining class. Marrying the wrong man she finds herself desperately in love—but not with friend husband. The tangled skein unravels sAtisfactorily, but not until a dramatic climax has been reached, the faithless husband paying the penalty for callous cruelty and brutAlity. Tn conjunction with the all star programme is a bewildering performance by Chuen Yuen Tai. His performance with silks, dice and other paraphernalia is very startling, and the Eastern atmosphere of his act is never absent. Chuen Yuen Tai has had considerable experience in the world of mystery, having for years been associated with the leading magicians of the Far East. Those seeking An entertainment full of merit, mystery and should avail themselves of this opportunity of witnessing this bewildering performance of Chuen Yuen Tai.

The entire programme will be repeated this evening. Box plans at Messrs H. I. Jones and Son’s.
