STOCK SALES
THE FARMERS’ CO-OP. ORGANISATION SOCIETY OF N.Z., LTD.
The Farmers’ Co-op. Organisation Society of N.Z., Ltd., report : —The past week has been a busy one. We have conducted 18 clearing sales as well as our usual yard sales. This report does not confine itself to one particular sale, but a general summary of prices realised. Young and good quality cows, July culvers, have been eagerly competed for, and bidding has been quite spirited. Good cows have found ready buyers at prices quite satisfactory to vendors. For the number of sales held, prices have held firm, no doubt due to the heavy cullings that have been rejected from the herds this season. Good herds have averaged £l2; best cows £l6 to £18; good cows, £l2 to £l5; more backward £9 to £11; late calvers, £6 to £8 10s. Good farm horses and sundries have also been eagerly competed for. In the yards at Hawera, prime fat heifers made £S; fat cows and heifers, £7 to £7 10s; mixed sex hoggets, 29s 2d. At Wavcrlcy, on Friday, 2 and •4tooth wethers made 36s 4d, fattening ewes 22s 3d; m.s. hoggets 30s. In the paddock several lines of fat sheep and cattle have changed hands. Prices arc firming up, and fat stock will be scarce in a week or two. Any offering now is readily snapped up. We have also sold complete dairy herds in the paddock at prices quite satisfactory to vendors. Dairy heifers are moving upwards, and we have this week sold two big consignments to go to the Waikato. Read good quality heifers showing condition and early calvers have made up to £ll 10s, but the average have been from £8 10s to £lO.
