ST. JOHN AMBULANCE

One very interesting feature of the work of the Order of St. John both in England and the Dominions is the annual festival of St. John’s Day. At Homo very elaborate arrangements are carried out, and all the big dignitaries associated with the Order take part. On that occasion, headed by H.R.H. the aged Duke of Connaught, admirals of the fleet, generals, and well known officers of the army, doctors, statesmen, and many concerned in the large affairs of commerce may bo seen in procession with their robes and insignia of the Order. It is just spectacular, and in accordance with tradition, of course. But it affords a conspicuous testimony to the principles of the Order.—“ For the Faith and for the Good of Hutnanity.” Here in Wanganui the local branches of the Order, the Women’s Nursing Division and the Eastown Railway and Wanganui divisions, with the local sub-centre of the Association, join together to celebrate St. John's Day on Sunday evening next at Christ Church. The service to be conducted by the vicar, Rev. Creed-Meredith will be commemorative of the establishment of the Order and its world-wide efforts for the good of humanity. Locally the men and women are doing their best, week after week, often at considerable sacrifice, on sports ’ grounds and other occasions, to prove true to the motto. We are sure that as the public become better acquainted with the work of the Order greater interest and support will be forthcoming in the local activities.
