NOTES AND COMMENTS Ten teams were seen in action on Saturday, and some rather fast and exciting play resulted. In some instances good exhibitions of the* stick game were witnessed. In the senior section, Hinemoa drew the bye, ami St. Andrew’s in the Juniors and Wangaehu in the ladies’ competition wore also the odd teams. Wangaehu played a friendly match with Turakina at Turakina. The Ladies’ Competition is so far providing the most interest. Ratana A and Tiki A have now 4 points each, Ratana B 2 points, Wangaehu 1, and Tiki B 1, so a great game is expected when Ratana and Tiki A’s meet again in the second round. With the addition of the newly-formed Wesley Club, six ladies’ teams will be in action each Saturday, and all players will be assured of a game. On Wednesday, June 3, all local teams will be represented, Junior Reps (at Tronvillo Park) play Wellington Junior Reps, Wesley Clubs at Stratford, playing for the Wesley Shield, Hinemoa and Phoenix at the five-a-sidc tourney at Feilding, Tiki Ladies at Ratana, and Wesley Ladies at Stratford. In the ladies’ games, Ratana B. showed great improvement, .defeating Tiki B. by one to nil, no other score being registered. Ratana’s goalie saved on several occasions, her prompt, actions defeating Tiki’s shots at goal. This game was the fastest of the ladies’ matches, both teams attacking and defending alternately. Miss Mary Paki opened up Ratana’s score with a stinger from a scramble in Tiki’s goal mouth. Mr Atkins proved a most capable referee. Ratana A. played Tika A., and although Ratana had several shots at goal Tiki kept pressing and from scrambles in the opposing circle scored six to Ratana’s nil. Misses Wakeling 1, Wilks 1, and Sampson 4, scored for the greens. Ratana put up a great fight and are not out yet.; every game shows improvement in this team. In the senior match, Phoenix met Tiki, who were defeated to the tune of 5 i thus reversing Tiki’s last performance when they beat Phoenix 6 0. lor the greens Simmonds netted 4, and Bennett 1, and for the yellows. Fox broke the duck. For the yellows Bovey played a great game, this player being always on the ball and bringing off many finn saves. Packer as usual, for the ‘greens, proved Tiki’s stumbling block. In the junior section, Wesley A. met Wesley 8., the former winning by 3 goals to nil. For the winners Terris (2) and Blight (I) scored. This club is showing remarkable, improvement, so should be well in at the finish at Stratford on Wednesday. Tech. 0.8. defeated Tiki by 2 goals to nil. There was a vast improvement on Tiki’s part, for they were beaten 10—0 last Saturday. Wellington Junior Reps v. Wanganui Junior Reps.—One or two changes
