The death of an old identity in the person of Mr. John .Sullivan, at the age of 70 years, took plaee at Waihi ou 26th ult. Deceased, who was bora tn Searig, County Clare, Ireland, was well-known in mining circles through out the'Coromandel, rhaiues and Wuilii districts. During the last 25 years he hud been a resident of Waili’i, where he was highly respected.

Mr. Robert Currie, who passed awny at lapanui. was a veteran of the American Civil War, throughout which he served in the Federal Naw, and was present at the taking of Fort Fisher, Wilmington. A native of Arran, Scotland, he came to New Zealand in the ship City of Dunedin in 1849, and became well-known in Port Chalmers and other parts of the Dominion.

Messrs W. H. and H. D. Bennett, F. Medowcroft (members of the Wellington City Council), W. T. Strand (Mayor of Lower Hutt). K. Luke (inspecting engineer, Wellington City Council), F. A. Dunean (pavement engineer, Welling ton City Council), A. H. Benham (engineer to the Hutt County Council), and A. P. Mackay (chairman of the Hutt County Council) are at present visiting Wanganui and are staving al the Rutland Hotel.

An ex-sergeant of the famous High land Regiment, the Black Watch, Mr 1 ho mas Nesbit, who served in Fram-u and later in the Balkans during the Great War, and who was scriouslv wounded, is being sent to England b’v the Red Cross Society’s branch in Dini edin. Mr. Nesbit t ame to New Z-1 land three years ago, believing that ho had sufficiently recovered front, hi. wounds to warrant him taking up farm ing, but his wounds again troubled him, and he was compelled, much against his will, to seek treatment at Contecillo and in the Dunedin Hospital. He is well known in Scotland as an international association footballer.

A member of one of the pioneer'ng families of Taranaki died at New Plymouth on Friday in the person of Mrs. Anne Flight Kelly, aged 85. widow of the late Mr. John Kelly, whose death occurred about eight years ago. Mrs. Kelly was a daughter of the late Mr. Josiah Flight, who was resident magistrate at Now Plymouth for many years. The late Mrs. Kelly is survived by a sister, Miss Flight of Now Plv mouth, and three sons and six dauglr ers, they being Messrs. W. F. anil 11. J. Kelly (Awakino), J.
