WAITOTARA NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) I regret to have to record the death of Daphne, youngest daughter of Mr and Airs Newman, at the early ago of 12 years. Her death took place at the Wanganui Hospital on Tuesday last, after a very short illness. She took ill only the previous Friday. She was one of the brightest little pupils at the school, and will be sadly missed by her playmates. The school flag was h*ifmast on the day of the funeral. For the sorrowing family much sympathy is felt. The Debating Society met in the supper room on Monday, 25th, and there was a good attendance of members. The subject for the night was how to make and respond to a presentation. Each one had to speak, and considering this was only a ‘‘preliminary canter,’ 7 they did very well. Air Tavendale presided for the evening, and at the conclusion of the meeting he was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The subject for Tuesday evening will be: “Is Afarriage a Failure"?” This, no doubt, will extend some of the “young colts.”
Wo have lost another of our much respected settlers in Air and Mrs E. Reimenschneider and family, who have decided to take up their residence in Auckland. They have resided here for over 25 years. We all wish them good luck in their now home. The Wairoa Sub-Union have donated a football to our school, and the committee wish to thank them for their genterosity. I understand each school in the district is to receive one.
