ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF DELEGATES YESTERDAY’S PROCEEDINGS (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 25. The annual conference of delegated to the Now Zealand Swimming Association was held this morning, Mr. AV. J). Bishop presiding. He said that the Association was in a healthy state It was gratifying to know that Neu Zealand had swimmers whose capabilities warranted sending them overseas, but it was discouniging to find that they still lacked some ordered system of preparing for representation abroad. A remit from Wellington that the junior and intermediate championships be hold in one centre and the senior championship in another w;u I lost. I A motion was carried urging that the championships slniuld begin not [ later than the lust Saturday in January. The Swimming Conference decided that Hawke’s Bay should have ths next Dominion championships. Al today’s eonferem-e oi delegates representing the New Zealand Swimming Centre, a remit brought forward by the Wellington Centre suggesting that the New Zealand championships should be divided, and that the junior and intermediate championships be held in one centre and the senior championships in another, was lost. In allotting dales for the 1926 championships, the .Manawatu, Hawke’s Bay and Dunedin delegates put forward claims. 11. Henderson, for Otago, urged Otago’s claims on account of the Dunedin Exhibition. He said they ackknowledgcd fact that they had not ia title to the meeting, but he knew |th:il if a vote were taken among swimI tners. and not among delegates, it would 'be curried by 90 per cent, in favour of | Dunedin. | The Hawke’s Bay delegate said to I give Dunedin the mooting would be to I establish n bad precedent. On a show of hands the Hawke’s Bay centre was allotted the 1926 championships. The. remit of the Canterbury Centre that a long plunge be added to the list of New Zealand championships, was opposed by a large number of delegates on the grounds that it was not a test of endurance in the right direction. It Wits distinctly injurious to health, and medical evidence was overwhelmingly against it. The remit was (turned down. i The Auckland delegates moved, that I the time is now due when the pressure [should be brought on the Government to appoint swimming instructors for each island. This was carried. With respect to the “learn to swim” week proposed by the AVellington Centre, it was resolved that the conference approve of the idea. With reference to Hawke's Ray remit, that the association handbook ba reprinted, the report of a conference of centre secretaries was presented, which recommended that the council should be urged to undertake the printing of 750 copies of tin up-to-dntc hand book, containing in addition Io the present matter a. resume of the work in each centre for the year, results of centre championships. centre records, standards, and other matter. 11 wns urged that it was not desirable that any advertisements should bo permitted in the hand(book. It was recommended that each centre should be invited to guarantee to take £5 worth of hand books when [printed and that the cost of a copy b« kept down if possible to 2s. AVith respect to educational returns [it wns decided that these should b« [included whore they wore available, .but that the issue of the hand book [should not be hold up on account of the non receipt of returns from any centre. The report wns adopted. Tt wns decided that it was dcsrrnble that the New Zealand championships should commence not later than the last Saturday in January. An Auckland remit that the “flying squadron relay'’ should count foi points for the A'aldhurst Shield was ear ried. I Tt was decided that a 220 vardr junior boys’ championship stonH h< substituted for a 41<1 yards. Tt was -stptcd that a -M(» yards’ race affsehvl a boy s health, it being tno much for a junior.
