GERMANY’S NEW EMDEN

LONDON, January 8. The Daily Telegraph's Berlin correspondent says that Germany’s first battleship built since her defeat has been launched. It is.a small cruiser named the Emden. Admiral Zenker, in a baptismal speech, said the name 'was of high significance, because the first Ejnden was commanded by a man of cool judgment, bold in execution, of inexhaustible resourcefulness, unflagging in action, unflinching even on a lost outpost, whoso crew followed him to the end, and who was an exponent of blameless chivalry even to his enemies. He would live in naval history as one of the greatest cruiser commanders who had sailed the sea. The widow of Von Mueller (the commander of the Emden) broke a bottle of champagne over the cruiser’s bows.
