BUTTER SLUMP
SUPPLIES EXCEED DEMAND. LATEST NEWS FROM LONDON. Received Jan. 9, 5.5 p.m. WELLINGTON, Jan. 8. Butter has slumped heavily owing lo large quantities afloat. It is estimated that the total supplies from all sources arriving in the course of the aext six weeks will exceed our normal consumptive requirements by a thousand tons weekly. There is every prospect that supplies during the next four months will continue to be large, and therc is also a prospect that the Siberian output will be larger and commence earlier than was expected. New Sealand choicest, salted, 164/- to 168/-; Australian, 160/- to 162/- (unsalted is ibout 4/- higher). Danish, 204/-. Cheese. —Steady. New Zealand, 96/to 98/-. Australian- —cleared.
