WAVERLEY NOTES.

TOWN BOARD. (From Our Own Correspondent). A meeting of the above was held on Wednesday. Present: Messrs R. P. Palmer (chairman), C. Dallison, A. J. Adlam, W. Wicks, J. Palmer, (Town Clerk). Correspondence.—-From Mr C. Fleming stating that a tree from the board’s plantation had fallen across his fence and caused some damage. He requested that the board should bear the expenses of removing the tree and repairing the fence. This was granted and the matter left in Mr,A. J. Adlam’s hands. Fl-oiii Mr L. Beer resigning his guardianship of the Fire Brigade property.—Received with regret. The clerk was instructed to write Mr Beer expressing the board’s thanks and appreciation of his long and able services. From Messrs Walpole and Patterson, regarding the preparation of the site for the War Memorial, and re- ' questing that the site be prepared and water laid on at once, as they were ready to proceed with their contract. —Referred to the engineer for immediate action. From Patea County Council referring to an account for £2 2s from the Railway Department for demurrage on three trucks of metal.—The board did not consider they were responsible for any demurrage and left the matter for the clerk to deal with. RESOLUTIONS. It was resolved:—That Mr Higginbotham be approached with a view to his taking over the guardianship of the Fire Brigade property, and to have the necessary telephone communication established between his residence and the power-house and pumping plant. That the dog taxes for the coming year be 2s 6d for sheep dogs, and 10s for sporting dogs, and that Mr James Gardiner be appointed dog-tax collector. That the tender by Messrs Christensen Bros, of £49 14s 6d for repairs to the Fire Station and workshops be accepted. Accounts amounting to £157 16s 8d were passed for payment. A special meeting of tho board will be held on November 17 to consider plans and specifications for grading and repairing the main street. WAIROA DOMAIN BOARD. Owing to some persons carting heavy loads of firewood from the beach through the domain, and cutting up the road, it has been decided that no wood shall be carted through the domain without first obtaining permission from the board, and then only on the understanding that any damage done to the road shall be repaired by the person doing the carting. WAVERLEY DOMAIN BOARD Mr Wicks reported that the shute had been repaired, and that a new see-saw was ready for erection. It was decided to erect a seat round the outside of the railings at the oval, for the convenience of the public. It was resolved that half the cost of repairs to the lawn-mower (£10), be met by the Cricket Club, and tho clerk was instructed to write the Cricket Club regarding the matter. Accounts amounting to £5 2s 6d were passed for payment. MAGISTRATE’S COURT. A shept sitting of the Magistrate’s Court was held on Wednesday morning, before Mr Barton, S.M. The following cases were dealt with: —• Judgment by default: Hurley v. F. Pollock £6, costs £2 4s; Dallison v. Frost £5 14s, costs £2 2s 6d, J. Washington v. F. Pollock £37 16s Bd, costs £2 ss. Williams, Duffy and Catanach (Mr Graham) v. J. L. Fogarty (Mr Roberts) claim for £6 I9s 2d. Mr Roberts opened for defendant and applied for permission to defend. Mr Graham objected as no notice of intention to defend had been filed. After hearing Mr Roberts’ explanation his Worship granted the application. The case was adjourned on the application of Mr Graham until the next sitting of the Court on December 10. A. AND P. ASSOCIATION A meeting of the committee was held on the 7th inst. Present: Messrs G. McGregor (chairman), F. Foley, W. H. Watkins, R, M. Bradley, J. Verry, A. A. Verry, C. F- M. Ross, F. R. Palmer, C. H. Southcombe, G. Spratt, D. McGregor, H. W. James, A. E. Symes, E. McGregor, C. Waterhouse, G. A. Walker. Some members deplored the absence of outside competition in the dairy classes at previous shows, and suggested that a fifteen guinea cup be donated by the Jersey Breeders of the district, as a points prize in these classes, with a view to attracting outside competition. This was decided after considerable discussion, and was left in the hands of Messrs C. F. M. Ross, G. Spratt and others to obtain the necessary funds. It was decided that the first prize for the best dairy cow be £5 ss, second £2 2s, and the third £1 Is; this to include the £2 2s donated by the Fresh Food Co., Wanganui, and that the entrance fees be 7s 6d, members ss. It was also decided that the schedules as revised by the dairy stewards and fruit and vegetable stewards be adopted. The chairman proposed that the association arrange to meet the committee set up by the Farmers’ Union, on November 26 at 12.30 pan. to discuss the cutting up of the Moumahaki State Farm. The secretary was instructed to notify the Wanganui Farmers’ Union, and Mr C. Honeyfield, Patea, to solicit their support in this matter. The motion was carried unanimously. The chief stewards will meet again to-day (Friday), to confirm the schedules and call tenders for the printing.
